How it works

From raw sewage inlet to polished reusable effluent — a four-stage biological treatment process.

01
Screening & Equalization

Incoming sewage is screened through bar screens to remove coarse solids and grit, then held in an equalization tank to buffer fluctuations in flow rate and concentration. This ensures a consistent feed to the biological treatment stage.

02
Biological Treatment

In SBR systems, a single reactor handles aeration, mixing, and clarification in timed cycles — equalization, primary clarification, biological treatment, and secondary clarification all in one vessel, minimising footprint. MBBR systems use plastic biofilm carriers providing high bio-film surface area with low power consumption and no sludge recycling.

03
Clarification & Sludge Management

Settled biomass is separated from treated effluent. The Draw step in SBR decants clear supernatant without disturbing the settled sludge. Excess sludge is dewatered by filter press or centrifuge, and the cake is composted or sent for regulated disposal.

04
Tertiary Polishing & Reuse

Pressure sand and activated carbon filters polish the final effluent. UV disinfection renders the treated water safe for flushing, landscaping, car washing, and cooling tower makeup — recovering value from what was otherwise a waste stream.

03 — Technology

SBR vs MBBR — what's the difference?

SBR — Sequencing Batch Reactor
  • All treatment stages in a single vessel
  • Minimal footprint — ideal for space-constrained sites
  • BOD removal efficiency 85–90%
  • Controllable react time and quiescent settling
  • High nutrient removal capability
  • Filamentous growth eliminated
MBBR — Moving Bed Biofilm Reactor
  • Plastic biofilm carriers provide high surface area
  • No sludge recycling required
  • Odourless operation with self-regulating system
  • Reduced power consumption vs conventional ASP
  • Non-clogging, easy to monitor
  • Capacity from 15 m³/day, prefabricated units available
